Most of the parents lived close to Zwijndrecht but one parent came from above Amsterdam. Everybody had a radio, a tv and a housephone, also they read a lot at home. When the parents were little there was a tv with a black and white display with 2 channels, later it became a colored screen with more channels, The commercial tv appeared and channels from different countries were available. The computer appeared when the parents were about 17 years old, and also the gamecomputer made its way into the household.
The historic disasters were way less intense because not a lot happened during their childhood of the age between 12 and 16 years old. The main event was the CD player appeared and a pop band split. A couple of years later there was the fall of the Berlin Wall and the gulf war (golf oorlog). The mass media wasn’t a big thing back than.
The parents and grandparents have concerns about the mass media and how it affects teenagers and the danger which is present.
