The overall answers of the interviews were pretty similar, but there were some significant differences. Most of the grandparents attended either a Catholic or Christian high school (and some an elementary school that was religious as well). Grandparents of both Isa and Daphne did "mulo" (which now represents havo). There was a difference though, in which Isa’s grandparents had classes with boys and girls, but Daphne’s grandparents were educated separately. You can see a difference between these results based on our grandparents and parents. The parents didn’t all go to religious schools and more schools consisted of both boys and girls.
Also some differences that are pretty big compared to today is that there weren’t many/any extracurricular activities to join. There would be a class trip every year, but nothing other than that. Some did have camp (this would be the only other activity), but this was pretty expensive back then and many people couldn‘t afford it.
Sadly around our grandparents time in school there wasn’t much help for people who needed it. If you weren’t fit to do the school work, because you didn’t get it or because you were dyslexic for example, you were more likely to be seen as stupid/less smart. The father of Zanna did have a school psychologist if mental help was needed.
Some important events that different parents/grandparents remembered of while they were in school were:
~ Zanna’s father remembered that Indirigandi was president.
~ The mother of Daphne remembered Beatrix becoming queen of the Netherlands.
~ Sophie’s grandma remembered the Kennedy assassination.
~ Sophie’s mother remembered the fall of the Berlin Wall.
